Daisuke Yokoyama | bind

Uncomfortable with conversation due to an interrupting stutter, Daisuke Yokoyama has been active in the field of portrait photography since finding that the very act of holding a camera and taking photographs of another person can serve as an alternative form of communication. He first became aware of his stutter during Japanese language arts class in the fourth grade of elementary school. In this exhibition, he combines his portraiture work with video footage of people reciting the same story he had read as a fourth grade student. In doing so, he aims to capture the minute fluctuations that are expressed when one is captivated by words while reading, and when one is focused on the photographer in the act of taking a photo.
